TD1 — Personal Tax Credits Return

The form your employer or payer uses to work out how much tax to deduct from your pay.

The form is downloaded and submitted on the authority's website.

What this form is for

  • Tell your employer or payer which personal tax credits you're entitled to, so the right amount of tax is deducted at source.
  • There is a federal version and provincial or territorial versions.

Documents to have ready

  • The supporting documents listed on the form or in its guide
  • Your social insurance number (SIN), if the form asks for it

Where to send it

You give the TD1 to your employer or payer, not to the CRA.

Our tips

  • Always download the latest version from the official page: tax forms often change from year to year.
  • Keep a copy of everything you send, with the date you sent it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to fill it out every year?
Fill out a new one when you start a job or when your situation changes (new child, studies, second job…). If in doubt, check the official page.
