Employment Pass — Work pass for expatriates

The work pass issued to expatriates hired by a company in Malaysia, handled by the Immigration Department's Expatriate Services Division (ESD).

The form is downloaded and submitted on the authority's website.

What this form is for

  • Allow an expatriate to work in Malaysia for a local company. The expatriate post must first be approved by the relevant agency, then the Immigration Department issues the pass.
  • The ESD portal also handles related passes: the Dependant Pass for family members, the Long-Term Social Visit Pass and the Professional Visit Pass.

Documents to have ready

  • Your valid passport and a photo meeting ESD requirements (an online checking tool is available)
  • The items on the Immigration Department's "Required Documents" list
  • From the employer: the company's registration with ESD and the approval of the expatriate post

Where to send it

The employer applies: the company first registers with ESD, then submits the application through ESD Online. You can check the application status on the same portal.
