Converting a foreign driving licence

The procedure with the Traffic Police to exchange a valid foreign driving licence for a Singapore licence.

The form is downloaded and submitted on the authority's website.

What this form is for

  • Get a Singapore driving licence based on a valid foreign licence (not expired, suspended or cancelled), after passing the Basic Theory Test (BTT) in Singapore.
  • If the licence was obtained after you settled in Singapore, proof of a stay of at least 6 months within 12 months in the issuing country may be required.

Documents to have ready

  • Your original foreign licence and a photocopy
  • Your identity documents (they vary with your status: passport, PR card, work pass) and a passport-size photo
  • If required, proof of your stay in the country that issued the licence

Where to send it

First complete the online Foreign Licence Pre-assessment. If you are eligible, you receive a link to book an appointment, then go to Traffic Police Headquarters.

Our tips

  • Always download the latest version from the official site.
  • Keep a copy of what you send, with the date you sent it.

Frequently asked questions

How long can I drive on my foreign licence?
It depends on your status: the period is shorter for new permanent residents and work pass holders than for visitors. Check your case with the Traffic Police.
